In 2024, Music Export Ukraine is excited to collaborate with XJAZZ! FESTIVAL in Berlin and the FUSIONJAMS community as part of the JAZZ KONTAKT project. The project aims to build a cultural and social bridge between the Ukrainian and German music communities, fostering strong international connections through music collaborations, workshops, and panel discussions. Artists and industry professionals will not only share their art and experiences but also engage in creation and future cooperation.

As Ukraine transitions from wartime to post-war reconstruction, this project gains a unique significance, addressing not just the musical journey but also the broader social norms and communities affected by conflict. It holds deep relevance for the Ukrainian community and cultural organizations, contributing to the redefinition of their shared vision in a post-war context. By engaging with specific communities, JAZZ KONTAKT promotes inclusivity, celebrates diversity, and showcases resilience in the face of adversity.

At the May event, the headliner of the night, SHCHUKA RYBA accompanied by a jazz trio from FUSIONJAMS community, represented the cultural DNA through reimagined performance of Ukrainian folk music. The opening included a panel discussion on cultural rebuilding in post-war times. 

JAZZ KONTAKT project is dedicated to proving the power of synergy, so on the 20th of July, Ukrainian and Berlin-based bands – Rena Dakhno EXPERIENCE and Ori Jacobson Quartet – shared a @zenner.biergarten stage to connect in a musical dialogue that speaks louder than words. An open jam session that followed the performance was the culmination of the event.

JAZZ KONTAKT is implemented by XJAZZ! FESTIVAL with support from the IZOLYATSIA foundation, Trans Europe Halles, and Malý Berlín, and co-financed by the ZMINA: Rebuilding program. This initiative is supported by the European Union through a call for proposals to assist displaced Ukrainians and the Ukrainian cultural and creative sectors.
